We have been working closely with residents on ways to reduce rat-running and speeding in the residential areas of Victoria Park. Our proposals aim to stop vehicles rat-running between Broad Lane and Raynville Road, whilst exploring the addition of pedestrian crossings to help residents cross the road safely and easily.
The scheme includes:
Access will still be maintained for people walking, wheeling and cycling, and residents will still be able to access their property in their vehicles (via an alternative route/s).
Two traffic filters will be placed at the junction of Victoria Park Grove and Lancastre Grove. These filters will permanently prohibit motor vehicles from using these streets as a rat-run between Raynville Road and Broad Lane. The filters will still allow access for people walking, wheeling and cycling and link up to form a larger public space that sits at the entrance of Victoria Park Grove Pocket Park. It will feature benches, planting and landscaping and cycle storage.
Lancastre Grove residents south of its junction with Victoria Park Grove will still have access to Raynville Road, whilst Lancastre Grove residents north of its junction with Victoria Park Grove will still have access to Broad Lane.
Victoria Park Grove residents east of its junction with Lancastre Grove will still have access to Broad Lane whilst Victoria Park Grove residents west of its junction with Lancastre Grove will still have access to Victoria Park Avenue and Raynville Road.
A traffic filter will be placed on Kirkstall Mount at its junction with Victoria Park Grove. This filter will permanently prohibit motor vehicles from using Kirkstall Mount as a rat-run between Raynville Road and Broad Lane. The filter will still allow access for people walking, wheeling and cycling and feature benches, planting and landscaping and cycle storage.
Kirkstall Mount residents south of its junction with Victoria Park Grove will still have access to Raynville Road, whilst Kirkstall Mount residents north of its junction with Victoria Park Grove will still have access to Broad Lane.
A traffic filter will be placed on Kirkstall Avenue at its junction with Abbey Avenue. This filter will permanently prohibit motor vehicles from using Kirkstall Avenue as a rat-run between Raynville Road and Broad Lane. The filter will still allow access for people walking, wheeling and cycling and feature benches, planting and landscaping and cycle storage.
Abbey Avenue residents and Kirkstall Avenue residents south of its junction with Abbey Avenue will still have access to Raynville Road, whilst Kirkstall Avenue residents north of its junction with Abbey Avenue will still have access to Broad Lane.
A traffic filter will be placed on Victoria Park Avenue at its junction with Lancastre Avenue. This filter will permanently prohibit motor vehicles from using these streets as a rat-run between Raynville Road and Broad Lane. The filter will still allow access for people walking, wheeling and cycling and feature benches, planting and landscaping and cycle storage.
Both Victoria Park Avenue residents and Lancastre Avenue residents will still have access to Raynville Road.
The junction of Victoria Park Avenue and Wyther Lane already has a traffic filter, however feedback from residents highlighted motor vehicles often mount this in order to rat-run. We aim to place planting and landscaping here to prevent drivers from doing this. The scheme will also create a better cycle link here between Wyther Lane and Victoria Park Avenue for connectivity.
In addition, residents highlighted a need for pedestrian crossing facilities on Outgang Lane, Raynville Road and Broad Lane (see above map). However, we are still exploring these as a possibility.
